Cased Heavyweight Plain Socks

私がこの靴下を作り始めた当時、このざっくりとした靴下は100年近く前に作られた機械でしか編むことが出来ず、この編機を持っている工場は世界的にも数件しか存在していなかった。
現在は状況が少し変わりつつあるが、それでも編める工場が世界的に珍しいことには変わりはないと思う。
この靴下は、普通の無地の靴下でありながら、優れたデザイン性を持たせたいと考え作った。
デザインを表現できる部分は畔、リブ幅、総丈、厚み、ゴム編みの長さしかなく、いかに美しくこれらのバランスをまとめるかだけを考えた。
トップのゴムが入ってる部分は少し長めに７cmに設定し、レッグ部分は靴下本体の重みから僅かにたるむものの、糸の本数を増やして編むことで、ズルズルと下がり切らない着用感を維持できるようにした。
また、３×１のリブが主流だった中、当時は珍しかった２×２のリブが履いた時に美しく見えると考えた結果、２×２のリブを採用することにした。
好みはあると思うと前置きした上で、この靴下のデザイン的なバランスの良さは唯一無二のものだと思っている。

When I first started making these socks, they could only be knitted using machines that were built nearly 100 years ago, and at that time, there were only a handful of factories worldwide that still owned such knitting machines. While the situation has somewhat changed now, I believe that factories capable of producing these socks are still quite rare globally.
I approached the design of these socks with the challenge of how to bring design to otherwise plain, undistinguished socks. The only areas where design could be expressed were the ribbing, rib width, total length, thickness, and the length of the elastic knitting. My focus was entirely on how to harmoniously balance these elements to create a beautifully crafted product.
The top elastic band is set slightly longer at 7 cm, and although the leg part may sag slightly under the sock’s own weight, I increased the number of yarns used in the knitting process to ensure a snug fit that prevents the socks from slipping down completely. Additionally, while the mainstream at the time was the 3x1 rib, I thought that the then-rare 2x2 rib would look more elegant when worn, so I decided to adopt the 2x2 rib design.
Although I recognize that preferences vary, I believe the balance of design in these socks is truly unique and unlike anything else.
